Achieving Building Code Energy Efficiencies in Florida |
In his July 2007 executive order, Governor Charlie Crist of Florida directed the Florida Building Commission to increase the energy efficiency requirements described in the Florida Energy Efficiency Code for Building Construction. The Commission, the Florida Energy Code Workgroup and the Florida Solar Energy Center were assisted by the FCRC Consensus Center at Florida State University to evaluate the options for achieving the building code energy efficiencies. The purpose of the workgroup is to develop recommendations that will increase energy conservation to 20% by the 2010 Florida Building Commission. These building efficiency increases will be based on the International Energy Conservation Code, while maintaining Florida energy efficiencies. |

Delivering Affordable, Efficient Energy in Arkansas |
To assist low-income residents of Arkansas who cannot afford to pay their utility bills the Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association (ACAAA) formed a Steering Committee of stakeholders that convened two Forums and identified three priorities: formation of a statewide fuel fund; expansion of a sales tax exemption for utility services; and expansion of the state’s federally-funded weatherization energy efficiency program. Members of workgroups focusing on these priorities have been actively involved in legislative initiatives and collaborative processes to coordinate and administer funds and assistance programs and expand utility services. |
