Federal Agencies Building Capacity for
Partnerships & Collaborative Action

The following federal agency web sites and materials may be of particular interest to states seeking to build capacity for collaborative solving:

  • DOI University offers an on-line conflict management training, including a CD Rom titled "A Conflict Management Primer," developed in cooperation with DOI's Office of Collaboration and Dispute Resolution and CDR Associates. The presentation defines terms critical to understanding conflict management, and describes when these processes should and should not be used.
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center educates natural resource managers on how to conserve fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. The Center integrates training in collaboration and partnerships throughout its courses.
  • Bureau of Land Management Partnership Series is a place-based training designed to address capacity building in times of budgetary constraints, enhancing land stewardship, and creating partnerships. The Series is designed for federal and other government employees, non-profit organizations, and citizens.
  • Partnership Resource Center provides partnering organizations and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) staff with information and resources for better working relationships. The Center was developed jointly by the USFS, the Department of Interior, the National Forest Foundation, and the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources. This website is an excellent resource for collaboration and collaborative stewardship, and includes a link to the University of Michigan's Ecosystem Management Initiative "Learning from Experience" page, with case studies and 'lessons learned' from collaboration and partnership experience.
