The Governor's Role
Delaware Cancer Consoritum - Cancer incidence and mortality in Delaware was among the highest in the nation in 2002. Governor Ruth Ann Minner, whose own family has been affected by cancer, convened the Delaware Cancer Consortium to advise the governor and legislature on the causes of cancer incidence and mortality and, most importantly, taking action for reducing both. The Consortium has implemented programs and services, driven awareness and education campaigns and many other activities to lessen the cancer burden in Delaware. Delaware's rate of improvement for cancer mortality now leads the country.
Solutions for Livable Communities
Clean Energy Economy Forum - Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker describes collaborative efforts, such as the Solutions System, in Salt Lake City to achieve livable communities at a March 2010 White House Forum on creating more livable and sustainable communities to create jobs and spur development. The Forum was co-hosted by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.
Public Solutions
- California Solutions: Mountain View Day Workers Center - With Bay Area non-profit, Community Focus, NPCC piloted the Solutions model in California, assisting the cities of Mountain View and Los Altos to find a permanent home for a Day Workers Center. Los Altos Mayor Ron Packard convened a team from both communities, including day workers, and the group came to an agreement to pursue purchasing a parcel of land. Two years later, the Center owns the land and is building that permanent home on the site. Along with Mayor Packard, Center Director Maria Marroquin, local banker Cindy Luetdke, and project manager Sarah Rubin talk about their experiences as part of the Solutions Team.
- Delta Ponds - Eugene, Oregon, Mayor Jim Torrey convened a team of local businesses, schools, adjacent homeowners, and community groups to reach agreement on how to both maintain and enhance Delta Ponds as an educational and recreational amenity. As a result of the Oregon Solutions project, managed by Oregon Solutions' Steve Greenwood, watershed and habitat restoration has been improved for the Willamette River floodplain at Delta Ponds. The project received $2.5 million in federal stimulus funds under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
- The Tillamook Basin Flood Reduction Project - Following major flooding in Oregon's coastal town of Tillamook, Governor Ted Kulongoski designated an Oregon Solutions project, convened by two local leaders (State Senator Betsy Johnson and Tillamook County Commissioner Mark Labhart), to prioritize projects on the ground that would alleviate the social, economic, and political damage such floods cause. The Oregon Solutions Team signed a Declaration of Cooperation outlining the top prioritized projects, including how funding and permits might be obtained, and the team has been implementing the 9 priority projects.
- Salt Lake Solutions - Salt Lake Solutions, based on the PCI Solutions System, is Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker's new initiative to incorporate collaborative governance into decision-making on public issues in Salt Lake City government.
- Lewis and Clark's Fort to the Sea Trail - Oregon State Senator Betsy Johnson describes how she convened a project to construct a trail commemorating the route Lewis and Clark took to reach the Pacific Ocean from their shelter at Fort Clatsop during the winter of 1805 to 1806.
- Vernonia Schools - The US Department of Education highlighted the Oregon Solutions Vernonia Schools project as a success story in this video. . The December 2007 flood in Oregon devastated much of Vernonia's infrastructure, including its schools. The community's recovery included this formal collaborative process to draw together a wide range of agency representatives, community leaders, and citizens with resources to rebuild Vernonia's schools.

- The Road to Progress - Texas State Senator and former Mayor of Austin Kirk Watson presents his views on convening a group to address highway planning in the Texas Hill Country. The University of Texas Law School's Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution designed a collaborative process for the project and provided facilitation for meetings of stakeholders.
- Maine's Many Flags, One Campus - Maine State Representative Chris Rector shares how the convening process led to the creation of collaborative educational opportunities in his district.

Air Quality Resource Teams: A Model for Civic Engagement - Community Focus, NPCC's civic engagement program in California, established Air Quality "Resource Teams,” which have been working since 1991 in San Francisco Bay Area counties to change behavior and reduce air pollution at a local grassroots level. Hear from team members as well as the key creators of the model in this video.
Bridging the Partisan Divide Through Collaboration
- The Great Lakes Compact - Indiana State Senator Bev Gard was instrumental in the passage of the Great Lakes Compact through the Indiana General Assembly. In this video she talks about the steps she took to garner bi-partisan support. Read more about the Compact here.
- Engaging All Sectors in Problem Solving - PCI partnered with the University of Arkansas Center for Public Collaboration to produce a video interview with Arkansas State Senator Shane Broadway. This short video focuses on bi-partisan consensus building around a school funding bill in the Arkansas State Legislature. Broadway, a Democrat, describes how he and his co-convener, Republican Senator Dave Bixby, determined who to bring to the table in addressing the school funding issue.

- Envision Utah: A Ten Year Experience - Robert Grow, Founder of Envision Utah, gives PCI Director Greg Wolf an overview of the formation of Envision Utah, a public-private parternship that addresses growth management in Utah.
- John Parr's Thoughts on the Future of Collaborative Governance - John Parr attended PCI’s Board meeting in August, 2007and spoke to the Board about collaborative governance. The current and former PCI directors have sought John’s counsel for many years. John was helping PCI establish a public solutions program with the state of Colorado at the time of his death. PCI was lucky to be able to share this time with John and learn from him so recently.
- C-Change: Leveraging All Sectors to Address Cancer - PCI Executive Director Greg Wolf talks with Tom Kean, Director of C-Change. C-Change, which is made up of 130 leaders from government, business, and non-profit sectors, leverages leadership and expertise as a forum and catalyst for identifying issues and major challenges facing the cancer community and for initiating collaborative actions to complement the efforts of individual C-Change Members.
